Our lives are really crazy right now getting ready for new floors to be put in. I have been running around like a mad woman, trying to accomplish the daunting task of getting everything off our floors. The girls were going crazy with all of their things in boxes. I decided to sit down and read a summer reading book with them. We read A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein. This poem really touched me. It is called
The Little Boy and the Old Man
Said the little boy, "Sometimes I drop my spoon"
Said the little Old Man, "I do that too"
The little boy whispered; "I wet my pants."
"I do that too", laughed the Little Old Man."
Said the little boy, "I often cry."
The little Old man nodded, "So do I."
"But worst of all," said the boy, "it seems
Grown-ups don't pay attention to me."
And he felt the warmth of a wrinkled old hand.
"I know what you mean," said the little old man.
THis really made me think and I put down the book and turned the sprinkler on for the kids and watched them laugh. We talked about what they want to be when the y grow up. Emma wants to be a vet. Abby wants to be an art teacher, and Mary Rose wants to be a reindeer. Later that night, the girls decided to be super heroes. They used whatever they could find that was not in a box. I especially love the googles and socks on their hands. You got to love the simple things! Have a great night! Dawn
